Both the Dunes and the Lost Farm courses are major drawcards and there’s much short course fun to be had over on Bougle Run. The impeccable courses on offer combined with the fresh Tassie air create an addictive elixir meaning, if you visit once, you’re bound to return again and again.

Nestled in the dramatic coastal landscape of Anderson Bay and flanked by Bass Strait, the Lost Farm and the Dunes courses were designed to emulate the true links courses of Scotland and Ireland. With the Bougle Run short course the newest addition to the Barnbougle family, which makes three iconic golf courses, ideal for both the enthusiast and social golfer.

LOST FARM

Arriving at the Lost Farm is a thrill in itself. The panoramic course views are spectacular and even the simple task of getting your clubs out of the car elicits a sense of excitement and anticipation to play.   

Designed and built by world-renowned US golf course design company Coore & Crenshaw, Lost Farm quickly captured the attention of international golfers of all abilities. Beginners to intermediate golfers will find it far less intimidating than its neighbour, the Dunes. This is mostly due to the wider fairways and strategically placed bunkers. Lost Farm features 20 holes, all of which are playable in any one round.

THE DUNES

Golf at the Dunes is a game of strategy, where each shot requires tactical thought.

Designed by renowned modern golf architect, Tom Doak, and acclaimed course designer, Mike Clayton, Barnbougle Dunes opened in 2004 and quickly established itself as a premier golfing destination. From then on, the global accolades just kept on coming.

A blend of fescue and bent grasses, the Dunes course flourishes in the coastal environment. Fairways are wide and the greens are lively, rolling with the natural undulation of the dunes. Did you know the 4th hole boasts the largest bunker in the southern hemisphere?

There is no doubting The Dunes is a challenging course; however, the rewarding feeling of dropping a good score here overrules any preliminary tee-off fears. 

BOUGLE RUN

A fun, yet challenging addition to Barnbougle’s two world top 100 courses, Bougle Run is designed for golfers of all abilities and is the perfect option to sate your golf appetite in just 90 minutes. Bougle Run’s 14 holes consist of 12 par-3s and two par 4s which sit on the tall, undulating coastal dunes between Lost Farm’s front and back 9.

STAY & PLAY

Barnbougle makes for a great golf escape with friends and also suits travelling with your partner too. The Lost Farm Lodge offers open-plan rooms with tasteful furnishings. Guests are met with a sense of rustic charm, semi-reminiscent of a European ski lodge. Enjoy a morning cuppa overlooking the big blue expanse of Anderson Bay or opt for a room looking directly over the Lost Farm fairways. Hint: book the double Queen suite if you’re planning to share a room with your bestie.

Meanwhile, over at the Dunes, you can up the luxury stakes and reserve an Ocean Villa. Think beachfront bliss with incredible views of the Bass Strait and Barnbougle Beach. These two-bedroom, two-bathroom villas feature a large open-plan living and dining area, kitchenette and a spacious deck for entertaining and/or relaxation purposes.

DINE AT BARNBOUGLE

Astute foodies and casual gourmands will be impressed with the scrumptious menu at the Lost Farm Restaurant. Every effort is made to source sustainable local produce to shine as the centre star of the meals here.

Oysters from the East Coast, Scottsdale Pork, grass-fed Cape Grim Beef, salmon from the pristine waters in the south of the state and fresh Bridport scallops are just a few of the Tasmanian ingredients on show here. There’s often a superb pasta dish available too. Be sure to peruse the extensive wine list or hop out of your seat and pop into the on-site cellar to hand select the perfect vino to accompany your meal. 

The Dunes Clubhouse is more of a casual dining atmosphere and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week. In cooler weather, the bar and lounge area is the spot to be post-round for a refreshing beverage and a hearty meal. Check out the golfing memorabilia on display around the fireplace and make yourself comfortable in the leather lounge.

Alfresco clubhouse dining is the way to go when the sun is shining. Order up a perfectly executed classic club feed of burgers, steaks, lamb shanks, fish and chips, Caesar salads or the ever-popular seafood chowder.

The Sports Bar at Lost Farm is a must too. Shoot some pool, tuck into a pizza and admire the sensational skies as the sun sets over the course. Tip: self-cook BBQ packs are available to Barnbougle guests too.

SPA 180

You can’t come to Barnbougle without booking in for treatment at Spa 180. No, that’s not an official rule but it certainly should be. As the name suggests the spa rooms feature serene ocean views which aid in relaxing the mind before the therapist’s fingertips have even reached you.

There are plenty of spa packages on offer. We recommend the massage and facial combination. Oh, and choose a spa treatment add-on such as the Tasmanian cheese platter with a bottle of sparkling (produced in the traditional method) from nearby Clover Hill Wines.
