Battling against cold and windy weather, Ko showed the steely Sunday nerves that her fans have become so accustomed to over the years, shooting a two-under-par 70 for a two-shot winning margin.
Ko’s victory on Sunday at her ‘home away from home’, Lake Nona GC, was her 20th LPGA Tour win – elevating her into an illustrious club that features some of women’s golf’s most famous names and bringing her to the brink of booking her place in the LPGA Hall of Fame.
Wearing her own signature edition ECCO BIOM® G5, Ko’s victory represents a flying start to the season for the Kiwi.
“I thought I would cry but nothing is coming out,” Ko commented following the win. “As much as the season was not the way that I would've wanted going into 2023, I felt like I still finished strong. That gave me good momentum for this year.
“I'm not going to think about it much,” Ko commented on the prospect of entering the LPGA Hall of Fame. “I just have to strive to be the best golfer I can. If my career leads me to becoming a Hall of Famer, that's awesome. I'm just a South Korean-born Kiwi playing this game of golf, and who knew I would be standing here and have played in the Olympics and have won on our Tour?”
Timo Vollrath, Head of Global Marketing at ECCO GOLF, added: “It was a real pleasure to see Lydia deliver such an assured performance this week, and to kick off her year in such an amazing way.
“Everyone at ECCO GOLF can’t wait to see Lydia in the winners’ circle again plenty of times this season, and we are looking forward to offering our continued support throughout the year.”
In addition to Lydia Ko, ECCO GOLF shoes are worn in competition around the world by Nanna Koerstz Madsen, Erik van Rooyen, Henrik Stenson, Esther Henseleit, Freddy Schott and Thomas Bjørn, among others. For further information about ECCO GOLF, please visit golf.ecco.com.
