What better way to greet the outdoors and absorb some restorative north Queensland sunshine than a game of golf. Gather your friends and get set to experience the tropical ambience of a golfing holiday to the Whitsundays.
Sure, the breathtakingly beautiful fairways of the Hamilton Island Golf Course (located on the adjacent Dent Island) are the most recognizable tee spots in the region (and arguably Australia) but there’s a host of other welcoming country style clubs here that merit your attention too.
So, without further ado Ladies Golf Magazine presents you with our favourite places to play golf in the stunning Whitsundays.
Prosperine Golf Club
Anzac Rd, Proserpine QLD 4800

Fact; a great game of golf has a certain allure that appeals to both those completely new to the game, as well as more seasoned players. Prosperine Golf Club definitely delivers in the countryside fun stakes. Visitors are more than welcome to for a social round of golf, or to join one of the weekly events or tournaments. Expect appearances by North Queensland fauna species including birds, wallabies and even a few curious turtles (a creek runs through the back 9) whilst out on the fairways here. It’s a ladies Par 73 course that presents a mix of narrow fairways, sloping greens, and a variety of hazards to keep players alert.
It’s worth noting that the Proserpine Golf Club offers a premium simulator & training facility, driving range and a practice chipping green. There’s a great range of golf equipment available for hire or purchase from the proshop too.

You don’t need to be a member to play golf or use the facilities here at Whitsunday Green because visitors and guests are always made welcome.

Book your tee slots via their website and head down for some healthy fun in the Queensland sun for a couple of hours.
Hint: the mezze platter on offer at the clubhouse is a delicious way to end your time on the green. Go ahead and up the ante by ordering a bottle of vino to accompany your yummy charcuterie selections.
Note: it’s a family friendly venue – so if you’re traveling with the kids then Whitsunday Green is fun golf outing for all.

Golf Links Road, Bowen, QLD
Phone: 07 4785 1206
Bowen Golf Club was established way back in 1928 and over the years has earned the reputation of being a “hidden golfinggem”, nestled along the Whitsunday coast waiting to be discovered by golfing enthusiasts and visitors alike. It’s renowned for its friendly atmosphere, superb seaside location, well-manicured greens, and its welcoming clubhouse vibes.
Located on prime beachfront real estate overlooking the Coral Sea, the Bowen golf club features a fun 9 hole, 18 tee, links style course that is both rewarding and challenging for golfers of all levels. However, the challenges do come with mother nature’s changeling moods and the strong winds she provides to this area. Tip; book your tee time early in the day to avoid the blowin’ Bowen gusts.
The 18 tees have been located giving a totally different approach to the previously played 1-9 creating a truly challenging 18 holes of golf. This par 70 course measures 5836m and is evidentially well cared for by the enthusiastic greenskeeper. Note; Bowen Golf Club is operated by dedicated local volunteers who pride themselves on presenting a relaxed golfing venue for all to enjoy.
Stay in the Whitsundays
We recommend basing your golf group in the fun tourist hub of Airlie Beach before exploring the regions golf courses via a self-drive
itinerary. The
Mantra Boathouse apartments
offer up tremendous views that stretch from the marina to the linear aquamarine horizon of the Great Barrier Reef. Centrally located,
self-contained and super spacious, the Mantra Boathouse apartments can easily be configured to match guest holiday accommodation
requirements. From here it’s a short walk to everything you need (restaurants, cafes, supermarkets) and it’s right by the passenger ferry
that departs to Hamilton Island too. Do keep that service in mind if you’re (wisely) planning a day trip to play Hamilton Islands
Championship Golf Course.
Non-Golfing Activities in the Whitsundays
To the Sea – there’s no better way to discover the entirety of this UNESCO National Marine Park, than by boat. We love the
idea of a private yacht charter! Ideal for a Great Barrier Reef seafaring adventure, complete with a professional skipper and a personal
chef aboard a glamourous catamaran. Call Robert from Intentionally

your group too.
Let’s Eat - Ok, you’re in north Queensland and thus you would be crazy not to indulge in a local steak dinner and a fresh seafood feast. KC’s Bar & Grill (main street Airlie Beach) is our number one pick for a memorable sirloin meal. Whilst the lively atmosphere of the Anchor Bar offers up a fun group dining experience overlooking the Whitsunday Island chain. Order the catch of day (on the day we visited we were treated to the coral trout), an exotic cocktail and unwind in a relaxed north Queensland environment.
Walk This Way - Ngaro Indigenous Cultural Tours is a unique boating and walking adventure where you learn about the history of the ancient island sea ‘Ngarao’ people, their customs and how they hunted and sourced “bush tucker”. The group (limited numbers) day tour sees guests explore two islands, visit a cave featuring aboriginal rock paintings, enjoy rainforest strolls and even learn how to throw a traditional fishing spear. A once in a lifetime opportunity to experience nature and Ngarao culture combined.
